Dark Light

Dark Light

From Audiobook Reviews - Podcast

Rating: 3 out of 5 stars Awards: Author: Randy Wayne White. Narrator: Henry Strozier. Category: Mystery & Suspense. Publisher: Penguin Audio. Release Date: 2007. Length: 12.5 hrs. Unabridged. Dark Light sees Doc Ford recovering from a category four hurricane, while also recovering a sunken Nazi era boat and ending up embroiled in a fight for the treasures within. It's back to work for Doc Ford in Dark Light. This time trouble is hitting very close to home. The book opens with a category four hurricane bearing down on the Florida coast and Dinkin's Bay Marina. When the storm leaves, it leaves a mess behind that the residents of the marina try to clean up. In the midst of dealing with his own storm aftermath, it is discovered that a Nazi era ship, the Dark Light has been spotted, or at least a part of it. The ship sank in 1944 and there is believed to be treasure on the ship, in the form of Nazi artifacts and possibly gold, that everyone seems to want a crack at. Doc Ford is convinced to take a team in to recover what he can, but starts to run into problems, the largest of which being the owner of another marina, Bern Heller, who wants the ship to himself and is willing to try and strong arm Ford to get him to go away. It is eventually discovered that Heller is so determined to have the ship because there is a lot of Florida property on the line through some of the items inside In addition to trying to bring up the artifacts aboard the ship while avoiding Heller, Ford also is called to help a women who's lover was accused of atrocities during the war. She believes some of the things Ford may find will clear his name. Like many of the Doc Ford novels, this one keeps you hopping from one story line to the next. As always, Randy Wayne White is able to keep you moving along with all of those stories as he weaves them into a tapestry that all comes together at the finish. This is not my favorite of the Doc Ford books, but still a great addition to the collection. The Narration: Henry Strozier may have been part of my problem with this audio book. While he has a great voice, he does not have the best character voice, so his reading of many of the character lines in the book altered the feel of many of the principals in the story. Bad Bertie Bartigan

Bad Bertie Bartigan

From Poetry4kids.com Podcast

When Bad Bertie Bartigan strode into town, he held up the bank and ... More

When Bad Bertie Bartigan strode into town, he held up the bank and his britches fell down. "Dad gum it!" he spluttered. "Gawl durn it! Aw, shoot!" then picked up his britches, but fumbled the loot. He lit out of town in a mad-scramble dash. He still had his pants, but he'd lost all the cash. The stagecoach was passing that moment, by chance. He held up the stagecoach, and down went his pants. "Dag nab it!" he blurted. "Dad blame it! Aw, no!" then hoisted his trousers, but dropped all the dough. He ran for the hills with his britches held high, but Bertie was broke and he wanted to cry. And, as he was running, he spotted the train, so Bertie, who wasn't renowned for his brain, said, "This is a hold up!" His pants hit the deck. "Garsh dang it!" he stammered. "Dog gone it. Aw, heck." He ran away clutching his britches again, straight into the sheriff and all of his men. They busted Bad Bertie and tossed him in jail, to wait for his sentence with no chance of bail. And, there in the hoosegow, in handcuffs and chains, he held up no bank tellers, coaches, or trains. "Dad blast it! Tarnation! Aw, Sam Hill!" he said, then stood there and held up his britches instead. –Kenn Nesbitt Copyright © 2009 Kenn Nesbitt All Rights Reserved www.poetry4kids.com Less
