BartlebyScrivener writes "A New York Times Op-Ed quoting Freeman and George Dyson wonders if Wall Street geeks and 'quants' outsmarted themselves with computer algorithms to create the current financial debacle: 'Somehow the genius quants — the best and brightest geeks Wall Street firms could buy — fed $1 trillion in subprime mortgage debt into their supercomputers, added some derivatives, massaged the arrangements with computer algorithms and — poof! — created $62 trillion in imaginary wealth. It's not much of a stretch to imagine that all of that imaginary wealth is locked up somewhere inside the computers, and that we humans, led by the silverback males of the financial world, Ben Bernanke and Henry Paulson, are frantically beseeching the monolith for answers.'" After the FCC's tests mentioned early last month, andy1307 submits word of the FCC's report (released Friday), writing that "the major telcos disagree with the FCC's report that concluded that using white spaces to provide free wireless internet 'would not cause major interference with other services. ... The FCC concluded that sufficient technical protections would prevent major problems.' FCC chairman Kevin Martin's proposal is to auction off the spectrum, with some rules attached. 'Some of the spectrum would be used for free Internet service, which would have content filters to block material considered inappropriate for children.'" Less

How and Where do You Post Your Digital Photos Online?

Add to iTunes | Add to YouTube | Add to Google | RSS Feed I’ve mentioned ping.fm many times as a wonderful tool to keep your friends up-to-date with what you’re doing. The last thing you want to do is update your status on several networks. Instead, you can use ping.fm to update them all at once. That’s fine for text status updates, but what about photos? What happens when you need to upload one photo to multiple places? Why not use Pixelpipe. Simply create a login, and add your pipes. Liberate your media with Pixelpipe and get your content out to your favorite social network, photo/video and blog service. We support popular destinations and provide a number of applications to free your media from your desktop and mobile. Why choose one when you can send your media through Pixelpipe and have it delivered to so many at the same time? Just continue to create your free account and join the liberation. I have added 37 different destinations that I have loaded now, all places where I might upload photos. I can’t even believe I have that many! I took a picture with my iPhone, and then used Pixelpipe to upload it to all of those sites that I chose. As I upload, I can caption/title the photo if I want, as well. You can also set a list of default keywords, and/or add others as needed. Within a matter of seconds, my image was pushed out to Pixelpipe and then thrown onto my accounts all all of those sites I have set. How cool is that? I mean, seriously. I upload photos all the time, sometimes several a day. And invariably, I always need to put them in many more than just one place. This makes it so much easier. If I were to read all the sites my photo was sent to, it would take me longer than what it did for Pixelpipe to sneeze it out to them. For free, it’s doing a better job than any other service like it I’ve seen. I will continue to add other photo services through Pixelpipe, and hopefully they’ll continue to improve and upgrade their service. Landscape Photography 101 Videos & Manual. What’s the Best USB Flash Drive to Buy?
Add to iTunes | Add to YouTube | Add to Google | RSS Feed I donR... More
Add to iTunes | Add to YouTube | Add to Google | RSS Feed I don’t think that I’ve heard heard anyone say “dang… I have too much capacity on my Flash drive”. You can never have too much space in my opinion. About a year ago I bought a 2GB Flash drive. What’s the highest capacity USB drive you have owned? Most of our chatters indicated that they own about a 2GB. I happen to have a 32GB Corsair Flash drive in my hot little hands. After the rebate, it was only $30.00. Of course, I found a coupon to help. As time passes, flash drives get cheaper and cheaper, and even as we speak, prices are ridiculous, but they keep going down. When I say “ridiculous,” I think about those days, not so long ago, when a 128Mb USB drive was worth a little fortune. Now, for that price, you can get a 8GB drive, and also get drunk. Anyway, instead of getting drunk, maybe you could also consider buying a…32GB drive? The Corsair Flash Voyager family of USB drives are rugged, stylish, compact, and reliable, making them ideal for transporting MP3s, digital images, presentations and more. Flash Voyager drives are fully Plug and Play with most operating systems and are backward compatible with USB 1.1. The Corsair Flash Voyager family is comprised of two outstanding products. The Flash Voyager GT is designed from the ground up for speed, optimizing transfer rates of both reads and writes, while Flash Voyager provides a durable USB drive in large capacities. The Flash Voyager and Flash Voyager GT are enclosed in the Corsair proprietary all-rubber housing. Boasting water-resistant properties, these drives allow users to carry more valuable data and applications without compromise. Several reviews of the Flash Voyager products have demonstrated the ruggedness, durability, and reliability of the Flash Voyager family. The Flash Voyager has been shown laundered, baked, frozen, boiled, dropped, and even run over by a SUV in many third party reviews. After all the punishment it receives, the drive continues to work. If you don’t like the U3 software, you can download the uninstaller from their website. I have about 9GB of apps on my Mac. I think I may keep these on this drive, so I can use them on other machines without having to download or install. I’ve always been happy enough with Corsair to spend the money and try it out. It was well worth what I spent, for sure. Survey Storage - Online Surveys Database. Featured On Entrepreneur Magazine Radio. Free Password Storage. Is GTA IV the Best or Worst of the Grand Theft Auto Series?
Add to iTunes | Add to YouTube | Add to Google | RSS Feed Is it jus... More
Add to iTunes | Add to YouTube | Add to Google | RSS Feed Is it just me, or is GTA IV like the most awesome game ever?! I don’t know, I’ve never played GTA to be honest. Grand Theft Auto is just not my thing. I have a top five list though, from someone who was also disappointed with GTA. He waited anxiously for the release of GTA IV, purchased it, and spent the night in Heaven playing it. He now regrets buying it instead of renting it first. Here are his reasons to not buy the game: From the second he started playing, he noticed the weird camera angles. Running and walking is very slow. The camera won’t stay directly behind him, so you have to re-adjust constantly. GTA IV received way too much hype over online play. Firsly, the maps are way too big for the number of people trying to play in a game. It’s hard to find anyone, and there are a limited number of cars in too large of an area. The auto-aim system needs to be revamped. It’s nearly impossible to switch from one enemy to another. There’s almost no free aim. When you aim with any weapon, it automatically aims at the nearest person. This makes things all the more frustrating. There’s one thing that is consistent, the missions. It doesn’t matter whether you’re playing a mission full of explosives or killing a family of Italians. There’s no variety. Each mission is the same. There’s no originality in the missions, like in past games. There is a serious lack of things to do. The city is the largest, but there isn’t much there. Bars and strip clubs get old after awhile. There’s a limited number of buildings you can enter. There’s no shops, restraunts or theaters. I don’t understand why the company would spend so much time building a beautiful game, yet limit us on what we can do. The reason why I pointed this out was not because I’ve played GTA, but because this is a very well laid-out list. I don’t complain about something unless I really care. When you hear me complain, then you know I care because there is passion behind my complaints. The person who sent this list truly cares. It’s a very well constructed bit of criticism. I’m curious to hear your opinions on the entire GTA series, and specifically your thoughts on GTA IV as compared to the rest. Sd Specialist - Surveillance Detection. What Kind of Home Security Do You Have?

Add to iTunes | Add to YouTube | Add to Google | RSS Feed Nearly a decade ago, I was on the cutting edge with a web cam. I didn’t even have broadband back then, but I had a semi-live web cam. People would watch it and save images from it. I received an email question, asking if I knew of something that would work to help him do surveillance with his computer and web cam. He’s using a Mac, and asked specifically for a Mac application. However, for you Windows users, you can check out webcamXP. webcamXP is a powerful webcams and ip cameras management and streaming software for private and professional use. it offers unique features and unequaled ease of use to let you broadcast and manage multiple video sources on the same computer. it is the perfect tool to secure your goods. For the Mac, I use Periscope. Periscope is the next generation of web cam software that lets you use your iSight to capture activity in front of your Mac’s camera and then save or share that image simply and automatically. Within seconds, you can configure Periscope to monitor a room for motion, sound or on a timer. Periscope will send real-time images to your e-mail, .Mac web page, or FTP site, and can upload to Flickr! The configurationg of Periscope is simple. You can set it up on air, and then make the configuration selections that are right for you. Choose how and when it captures photos, and decide if you want to add timestamps or text overlays. Then you can choose from a variety of places to publish the photos, including iPhoto or your .mac account. Periscope has the potential to be just right for your home surveillance needs. It’s only $25.00, and works very well. It doesn’t record video, but it is quite full-featured otherwise. The images from this are high quality, as well. Whatever you’re doing, Periscope is fun and functional. Sd Specialist - Surveillance Detection. Want to embed this video on your own site, blog, or forum?
