Studio Link and Upload Functions Update

07/04/2008

Happy 4th of July!

Overnight, our team updated the database and site code to enable the most popular Studio functions, "link to audio on the web" and "upload". These are now integrated into the new site as "Producer Tools". For now, these functions are only available to users that already have a channel on the old Studio product. In the near future, we'll deploy the "Add a Channel" feature and allow people to again start creating new channels at Odeo.

Some of you might be asking, "What about recording"? We are working on that as well and recording will be part of a larger suite of tools that promote the communication between Producers and Viewers. Audio/Video commenting and Podcast recording will be the main components of that new service.

We are working on a data merge to automatically re-claim everyone's feed and restore their privilege level but if you can't wait for that, please open a trouble ticket and send us your channel link and we'll do it manually for you.

Thanks so much for your patience on this. I know that it took a couple weeks to make the changes, but the getting the tools over to the new architecture will make for a much more stable product. Something that we all can appreciate.

The links for the "Producer Tools" are on the page for your Channel listing. These links will only appear if you're logged in and have "claimed" your channel. Also, once you've claimed your channel, there will be a drop-down menu at the top that says "My Channels" that will give you quick access to your "Producer Tools" for each channel you have claimed. The Producer Tools allow you to edit the meta-info and visual style for your channel page, view statistics about your channel (we're planning to do a lot more with this in the future...), and also upload and publish new episodes. Thanks again for all your patience as we work through this transition period. -- Josh (Odeo, Product Development)

Josh, it would be really helpful if your reply to the above comments was appended to the original post. I'm guessing that quite a few users will be having similar issues...

What about the ITUNES information? My show is there but the shows will not play (like it is not linked). Did my RSS information change??

Is it currently possible to change the title, description and tags of an "episode" after the file has been saved on Odeo? Thanks.

I really dislike the new ODEO format. The previous format was so much better and very user friendly. I don't have a "link to audio on the web" in my Producer Tools. I am logged in too. Would very much appreciate some assistance. Here is my channel: http://odeo.com/channels/815243-Liberated-From-Lies Thank you.

I'm logged in too and I've had an Odeo account for years, but like many people here under Producer Tools there's no "link to audio on the web" or "upload" option. I just see: Edit Info | Change Style | View Analytics Here are my channels:- http://odeo.com/channels/128699-English-Stuff http://odeo.com/channels/115578-Interesting-Facts-Podcast http://odeo.com/channels/115923-English-Dictaton http://odeo.com/channels/116645-Fun-With-English Any help would be appreciated.

I assume the add new channel functionality is still not there.... Why is this info not prominently displayed on say...the register page? or the account page? Odeo wasted me an hour trying to find how to upload a new podcast...and great, apparently I can't do it. I am sure many others have lost time scratching there heads about this. If on the other hand, you can create new channels, then please direct me, and may I say this also needs to be made more prominent. You guys need a LOT of work on responding expediently to these folks on the blog as well. My 2 cents.

I've just received a reply from support to say that there was a bug and the upload option is now available on my account. There seem to have been some changes. I couldn't change the size / colour of the player, and there were fewer options for tagging the files, but if this makes it more stable, then so be it. On the plus side the quality of the sound was much improved. If you think you should have this option and are still having problems uploading I suggest you contact support.

Upload still doesnt work - all you get is a way of entering an url to something already on the web. Any idea when this going to be fixed. Also it was a shame that all our previous play stats have been reset to zero.

The play stats look good good but don't seen to be counting (or nobody is listening which I don't think is true). I have listened twice to my podcasts and these haven't been recorded (do they call that ego podcasting??) It would have been good to have the old stats carried over, and also have stats for all podcasts, not just the " recent".

My older audio files no longer have the option to delete. Anything I've uploaded since the changes is ok. I've sent a support ticket, but haven't heard anything as yet.

No upload option available so far. Maybe it is time to change to another podcasting website...

Still no upload function. The listener stats are still rubbish and no reply to my support ticket. Can someone from Odeo post a comment to tell us what is happening please.

Odeo is going down the tube. No upload and I think their plans to host audio files is NOT. They just don't want to admit it. That is also another reason they are not responding to tickets or email. Another very poor business decision is not announcing the major changes and not communicating with their customers.
